Ensuring environmental and socioeconomic sustainability is paramount to the continued growth of the global economy and the efforts to combat anthropogenic climate change. Government policies have begun to reflect the importance of sustainable energy development.
Verno Systems appreciates this shift in policy and is committed to the sustainable development and production of advanced biofuels. To this end, we enjoy and will continue to develop close relationships with leading environmental NGOs and academic institutions involved in various aspects of environmental conservation, socioeconomic capacity building, public awareness, and advocacy. We are engaged with industry initiatives to craft and implement sustainable biofuel policies and are a member on the Steering Board of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB), which has developed an international standard for sustainability throughout the biofuel supply chain.
All advanced biofuel production systems that we design, enable, or support will meet or exceed the following criteria:
- Develop in a manner that is non-competitive with food and does not jeopardize potable water supplies.
- Significantly reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions relative to the fossil energy they replace.
- Raise incomes and build socioeconomic capacity in the communities involved in their production.
- Minimize negative biodiversity impacts and preserve ecosystem functions through sophisticated environmental management programs.
