The article, “Planting Hope”, ran in the February 23 – March 1 2010 issue of Flight International. It details growing interest on the part of airlines and aerospace OEMs in sustainably produced aviation biofuel. Unlike ground transport, biofuel is the only form of renewable energy available for airlines to achieve emissions reductions. However, the adoption of biofuel by the aviation industry is currently constrained by a lack of sustainable, next-generation feedstock, which is in large part due to insufficient investment. Verno highlights the opportunity for the aviation industry to secure supply and cost advantages by participating and investing in the development of advanced biofuels.
